Prince Albert Saturday Market
17 August @ 9:00 AM
The Prince Albert Saturday Market offers delicious breakfasts, home-produce and craft stalls. Enjoy a cup of coffee and a pancake or an early lunch at the market, such as a jaffle (an old-fashioned round, grilled sandwich) stall with its organic venison, curry mince, lamb and chicken fillings; or cheese, onion and tomato for the vegetarians.
The Prince Albert Saturday Market also serves mini-lemon meringue pies and individual milk tarts. Buy jams, preserves, olives, olive oil, freshly baked bread and organically grown vegetables and fresh fruit in season.
The Prince Albert Saturday Market goes back more than 150 years. In the Government Gazette of 30 October 1855, the Governor, Sir George Grey, gave permission for Prince Albert to hold a weekly market.
It flourished for years but eventually disappeared. In December 1997 the Prince Albert Tourism Association resurrected the now popular weekly market.
The Prince Albert Market happens from 9am intil 12pm every Saturday in Prince Albert, Western Cape. When you leave, dont’t forget your takeaway – herbs in punnets, homemade jams or a few pancakes. Grab a whole lot of Karoo Khaya’s fruit and veg – all grown from seed, with a strong focus on heritage crops..
